Since 1961, our mission has been to foster community spirit and promote Vernon as a Winter Destination through a 10-day Winter Festival. Vernon Winter Carnival offers a unique winter experience that is inclusive to all. The Executive Director is responsible for the organization, promotion and execution of the VWC annual winter festival, reporting directly to the board on the success of the Society’s mission: To foster community spirit and promote Vernon as a Winter Destination through a 10-day Winter Festival. The ED is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organization and provides strategic guidance in development that aligns with the organization’s Strategic Plan, specifically to support the growth and sustainability of VWC as a festival and a Society.
Duties will include:
• Work with the board of directors to ensure the successful organization and execution of an annual Winter Festival
• Leads the organization in the development, implementation and evaluation of operational planning
• Organization, creation and execution of a variety of events such as dinners, parties, parades, galas, fundraisers, sporting events, family events and more
• Fundraising for the festival and society including but not limited to: Securing sponsorships from local businesses, grant writing, selling advertising in the annual brochure, fundraising events including auctions and raffles
• Volunteer management and organization
• Hiring and management of seasonal employees
• Promotion and marketing of the festival and the society
• Social media, press releases, interviews and other forms of communication on behalf of the festival and society
• Administrative duties in the VWC office such as responding to emails, answering phones, retail sales of event tickets and merchandise
• Communicate and coordinate with the VWC accounting team to provide invoices and ensure bills are paid on time
• Fulfilling e-commerce and online ticket orders
• Ensure the society is achieving its mission and vision on an annual basis, implementing the goals of the five-year strategic plan and adhering to the core values of the society

• Able to handle and prioritize multiple projects and tasks simultaneously
• Detail-oriented and self-motivated, with strong organizational and time management skills
• A people person with superior customer service skills
• Calm and collected in high-pressure situations
• Ability to lead in a positive manner with exceptional motivational skills
Qualifications include:
• Minimum one-year in event management and planning
• Minimum one-year successful grant writing experience
• Minimum one-year advertising, marketing and promoting experience
• Excellent communication skills
• Experience working with non-profit organizations
• Knowledge of the Vernon and North Okanagan Community
• Knowledge of tourism industry an asset
• Must be available to work flexible hours including frequent evenings and weekends
• Experience with web platforms and e-commerce
• Customer service experience
• Basic knowledge of graphic design an asset
• Valid drivers license required
*Please note this is position is part time to start during the transition period November-December* Full time employment will start January 1, 2023.
Compensation: $40,000-$50,000 Annually
Wages may be negotiated based on experience; contract/seasonal work will be considered.
